================================== 7th Workshop on Formal Topology (7WFTop). >From topology to dynamic constructivism, and back. (first announcement) > ------------------------------ The 7th Workshop on Formal Topology will take place in Venice, Italy, on April 13-17, 2026 at Convento di San Francesco della Vigna. This is the seventh of a series of successful meetings on the development of Formal Topology and its connections with related approaches. The first six have been held in Padua (1997), Venice (2002), Padua (2007), Ljubljana (2012), Stockholm (2015), and Birmingham (2019). The meeting is supported by Dipartimento di Matematica “Tullio Levi-Civita” (Università di Padova). ------------------------------ Dynamic constructivism is a new approach to the foundation of mathematics proposed by Giovanni Sambin starting from the 90s and whose forthcoming book is a first organic exposition. The main claim is that mathematics is the result of a dynamic, human process, which stems from the interplay between the construction of mathematical entities, by abstraction and by idealization, and their selection according to their effectiveness in applications to reality and in the organization of mathematics itself. Pointfree topology in the form of Formal Topology and the more recent Positive Topology provides a key tool to link the effective content of mathematics with its ideal one, and thus achieve a synthesis of computation and visual intuition. A careful management of information within a dynamic view "back and forth" from mathematics to its foundation inevitably leads to accepting a plural vision of mathematics, thus enlightening connections between different constructive or even classical approaches to it. With Roger Penrose and Yvette Fuentes trying to save 100.000 hours of lectures, tons of CT, going back to early 70's

This email concerns a request by Roger Penrose, Yvette Fuentes, and myself, asking for help to save an archive of incredible scientific and historical value. Likely several of you are already aware of this archive, as many of you are in it of course. It’s the life’s work of Mike Wright who since the early 70’s has spent his life mainly recording scientific talks, well before anyone was doing anything like that, resulting in 100.000 hours. I am sure many of you must have witnessed Mike doing his recordings. Just to mention a few names in it: Maths/CS: Grothendieck, Atiyah, Lawvere, MacLane, Eilenberg, Cartier, MacIntyre, Dana Scott, Kreisel… Physics: Penrose, Hawking, Wheeler, Ashtekar, Ward, Geroch, Sciama, Salam, Finkelstein, Bohm… Philosophy: Popper, Quine, Dummett, Davidson, Wiggins, Badiou, Redhead… Of course, much was done with audio tapes and notes, or video tapes, which all need to be digitised. Mike spent all of his possessions including his two houses on this - as well as on several conferences he organised and fully funded. His health is also starting to let him down a bit. And while a substantial portion is now digitised, some work still needs doing to reach the finishing line, which could be achieved in a bit over a year. The conference is organized by IARCS, the Indian Association for Research in Computing Science (https://www.iarcs.org.in/) in association with ACM India (https://india.acm.org/) It is a very visible forum for presenting original results in foundational aspects of Computer Science and Software Technology. As in the previous years, this year too, co-located with the main FSTTCS conference, IARCS is organizing the Workshop on Research Highlights in Programming Languages (RHPL@FSTTCS). The focus of the workshop will be on all areas of Programming Languages (PL), including but not limited to: - Applied formal methods - Automated and interactive theorem provers - Compilers - Concurrency and memory models - Domain and type theories - Program analysis and verification - Program sketching, synthesis and repair - Programming language design and semantics Further, in view of the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in PL theory and practice, the workshop also includes in its scope themes pertaining to the influences of AI/ML concepts and tools on the mentioned PL topics, and vice-versa; for instance, probabilistic programming languages. The objective of RHPL is to foster interactions between the attendees of the workshop, and more broadly between researchers working on Programming Languages and the traditional FSTTCS community of researchers working on Theoretical Computer Science and Formal Methods.
