Hi, A partial functor from C to D is given by a subcategory S of C and a functor from S to D. What is the appropriate notion of natural transformation between partial functors that would allow to turn small categories, partial functors and those "natural transformations" into a bicategory? A post-proceedings volume in LIPIcs, with an open call.] CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS 21st International Conference on Types for Proofs and Programs, TYPES 2015 Tallinn, Estonia, 18-21 May 2015 http://cs.ioc.ee/types15/ Background The TYPES meetings are a forum to present new and on-going work in all aspects of type theory and its applications, especially in formalized and computer assisted reasoning and computer programming. The meetings from 1990 to 2008 were annual workshops of a sequence of five EU funded networking projects. Since 2009, TYPES has been run as an independent conference series. Publication: Pitts monads and a lax descent theorem

Tbilisi Mathematical Journal, Volume 8, Issue 1, ISSN (Online) 1512-0139, DOI: 10.1515/tmj-2015-0001, February 2015 Abstract A theorem of A.M.Pitts (1986) states that essential surjections of toposes bounded over a base topos S are of effective lax descent. The symmetric monad M on the 2-category of toposes bounded over S is a KZ-monad (Bunge-Carboni 1995) and the M-maps are precisely the S-essential geometric morphisms (Bunge-Funk 2006). These last two results led me to conjecture and then prove the general lax descent theorem that is the subject matter of this paper. By a 'Pitts KZ-monad' on a 2-category K it is meant here a locally fully faithful equivariant KZ-monad M on K that is required to satisfy an analogue of Pitts' theorem on bicomma squares along essential geometric morphisms. The main result of this paper states that, for a Pitts KZ-monad M on a 2-category K ('of spaces'), every surjective M-map is of effective lax descent. There is a dual version of this theorem for a Pitts co-KZ-monad N. These theorems have (known and new) consequences regarding (lax) descent for morphisms of toposes and locales. It has two main goals: to equip PhD students with a sound basis for their research by deepening their knowledge on the mathematical and conceptual foundations of computing; and to provide a platform for making contacts with established researchers in the field and with their peers who are at a similar stage in their research careers. This year's MGS is hosted by the Department of Computer Science at the University of Sheffield. It will start on April 07 and finish on April 11. Genova, Preprint 605 (2015). http://www.dima.unige.it/~grandis/Mlc2.pdf Abstract. Continuing our first paper in this series, we study multiple limits in infinite-dimensional multiple categories. The general setting is chiral multiple categories - a weak, partially lax form with directed interchanges. After defining multiple limits we prove that all of them can be constructed from (multiple) products, equalisers and tabulators - all of them assumed to be respected by faces and degeneracies. Tabulators appear thus to be the basic higher limits, as was already the case for double categories. Intercategories, a laxer form of multiple category already studied in two previous papers, are also considered. 19th European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software ETAPS 2016 Eindhoven, The Netherlands, April 2-8, 2016 http://www.etaps.org/2016/ Call for Satellite Events -- ABOUT ETAPS -- The European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software (ETAPS) is the primary European forum for academic and industrial researchers working on topics relating to Software Science. ETAPS is an annual event which takes place in Europe each spring since 1998. The nineteenth conference, ETAPS 2016, will take place April 2-8, 2016 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. ETAPS main conferences will take place on April 4-7, 2016. They are: + ESOP: European Symposium on Programming, + FASE: Fundamental Approaches to Software Engineering, + FOSSACS: Foundations of Software Science and Computation Structures, + POST: Principles of Security and Trust, + TACAS: Tools and Algorithms for the Construction and Analysis of Systems. -- SATELLITE EVENTS -- The ETAPS 2016 organizing committee invites proposals for satellite events (workshops etc.) that will complement the main conferences. They should fall within the scope of ETAPS. To help planning, workshop proposals should contain the following data: - Name of the workshop. - Brief description of the workshop, including workshop topics. - Valid web address of the workshop. - Contact information of the workshop organizers. - An estimate of the audience size. - Proposed format of the workshop (for example, regular talks, tool demos, poster presentations, etc.). - Duration of the workshop (one-day or half-day). - Potential invited speakers (if any). - Procedures for selecting papers and participants. - Special technical or AV needs.
