Hi, A partial functor from C to D is given by a subcategory S of C and a functor from S to D. What is the appropriate notion of natural transformation between partial functors that would allow to turn small categories, partial functors and those "natural transformations" into a bicategory? 5-YEAR RESEARCH POSITIONS The Centre for Mathematics of the University of Coimbra (CMUC) invites applications for five 5-year research positions in all areas of Mathematics. Applicants should have a PhD in Mathematics and at least three years of post-doctoral experience, with an international-level publication record and demonstrated ability to perform independent research. Preference will be given to candidates working in one of the areas in which the members of CMUC are currently active. A very good command of English is required. The appointments will be made for three years, renewable for two more. Successful applicants are expected to develop research within the areas of interest of CMUC. They should also contribute to graduate studies, supervising students from the Department of Mathematics. separable locale

Recently rereading Fourman's "Continuous Truth" I came across the term "separable locale" but could nowhere find an explanation. Does it mean a cHa A for which there exists a countable subset B such that ever a in A is the supremum of those b in B with b leq a. This would be the point free account of "second countable", i.e. having a countable basis. Of course, second countable T_) spaces are separable, i.e. have a countable dense set. Abstract: In this paper it is shown how non-pointed exactness provides a framework which allows a simple categorical treatment of the basics of Kurosh--Amitsur radical theory in the non-pointed case. This is made possible by a new approach to semi-exactness, in the sense of the first author, using adjoint functors. This framework also reveals how categorical closure operators arise as radical theories. Types Meeting 2013 Toulouse, 23-26 April 2013 http://www.irit.fr/TYPES2013/ FIRST CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS The 19th Conference "Types for Proofs and Programs" will take place in Toulouse, France, from 23 to 26 April 2013. The Types Meeting is a forum to present new and on-going work in all aspects of type theory and its applications, especially in formalized and computer assisted reasoning and computer programming. Invited speakers: * Steve Awodey, Department of Philosophy, Carnegie Mellon University, U.S.A. * Lars Birkedal, Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University, Denmark * Ulrich Kohlenbach, Department of Mathematics, TU Darmstadt, Germany We invite all researchers to contribute talks on subjects related to the Types area of interest. These include, but are not limited to: - Foundations of type theory and constructive mathematics; - Applications of type theory; - Dependently typed programming; - Industrial uses of type theory technology; - Meta-theoretic studies of type systems; - Proof assistants and proof technology; - Automation in computer-assisted reasoning; - Links between type theory and functional programming; - Formalizing mathematics using type theory. We would like to especially encourage talks proposing new ways of applying type theory. The talks may be based on newly published papers or work submitted for publication, but also work in progress. There are no formal pre-proceedings, but we will make available the abstract book for the conference. Meanwhile, post-proceedings are confirmed to appear in LIPIcs (Leibniz International Proceedings in Informatics), Schloss Dagstuhl, see http://www.dagstuhl.de/en/publications/lipics (the same publisher as for the last TYPES meeting in Bergen in 2011) There will be a separate call for papers, and participation in TYPES 2013 is no prerequisite for submission to the post-proceedings. Previous meetings have taken place in Amsterdam (2005), Swansea (2006), Siena (2007), Athens (2008), Heidelberg (2009), Ponte Dalgada (2010), Sofia (2011) and Cambridge (2012). The Nature of Computation is meant to emphasize the special focus of CIE13 on the unexpected and strong changes that studies on Nature have brought in several areas of mathematics, biology, physics, and computer science.
