Collection honouring Robert Paré for his 80th birthday

We are pleased to announce a special collection in Applied Categorical Structures honouring our friend and colleague, Bob Paré, on the occasion of this 80th birthday. Throughout his career Bob (Professor Emeritus and Adjunct Professor at Dalhousie University) has made several lasting contributions to category theory, including notable research in a broad range of subjects, such as double categories, higher categories, indexed categories, toposes and accessible categories. This collection will bring together contributions which honour the lasting impact Bob has made, and is making, in the category theory community. Submissions will be open from 1 October 2024 until 30 June 2025 at this link: https://link.springer.com/collections/dijeibfdbh All submissions on topics which celebrate Bob's work are welcome, including double categories, higher categories, indexed categories, toposes and accessible categories. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS Workshop on Logical and Mathematical Diagrams (LoMaDi) Center for Logic and Philosophy of Science, KU Leuven Leuven, Belgium 15-16 September, 2025 Submission deadline: 12/05/2025 https://logicalgeometry.org/events/lomadi2025 ----------------------------------------- ABOUT LoMaDi ----------------------------------------- The LoMaDi workshop is a brand new workshop aiming to support the growing community of researchers who are interested in logical or mathematical diagrams, such as (but not limited to) Aristotelian diagrams, Euler diagrams, commutative diagrams, knot diagrams, Venn diagrams, Hasse diagrams, etc. We welcome submissions from researchers that work directly on such kinds of diagrams, from a logical, philosophical, mathematical, historical, aesthetic, cognitive, … perspective. Furthermore, we also welcome submissions from those that apply these diagrams in all sorts of research domains, be it law, psychology, computer science, linguistics, philosophy, natural sciences, or some other field. In this way, we hope to stimulate interdisciplinary work, the transfer of knowledge between fields, and the conception of creative new insights. We encourage both junior researchers (including students) and established academics to make a submission, which can range from work-in-progress to completed research. postdoc position in Brussels

Dear colleagues, Hereby I make a call for applications for a postdoctoral position that is available at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium). The candidate is expected to start in October 2025. The contract is for one year, but can be renewed twice (so for a maximum period of 3 years). To be eligible, candidates should have obtained a PhD before the start of the contract, and should satisfy the “mobility rule” which means that they did not work, nor resided in Belgium during at least 12 out of 36 months before the start of the contract. The same rule should be satisfied at the start of the 2nd and 3rd year of the contract, in case of an extension. The gross salary of the grant is 3116 eur per month. The grant also comes with a bench fee (about 2500 eur per year) for travelling and/or buying a computer. The vacancy is opened in the framework of the research project “Reconstruction of modules and algebraic objects from closed and monoidal structures on their representation categories”, funded by the fnrs (the agency for scientific research of the French speaking community in Belgium) and with Joost Vercruysse as PI. The title already hints on the main topics of the project: Hopf algebras, and generalisations of these such as Hopf algebroids and Hopf monads, closed and monoidal categories of (partial) representations over these. Apart from developing their own research, the selected candidate is expected to devote some of their time on the themes of the project and collaborate with other members of the group. On purpose, the procedure for applying is kept as simple as possible, it suffices to send the following documents by email to Joost.Vercruysse(a)ulb.be before April 20, 2025: -A short motivation letter (max 1 page) -A short CV, containing previous grants and positions and a complete publication list -The e-mail addresses of at least 3 possible researchers holding a permanent position and who can write a reference letter. PhD position at the University of Sussex, starting Sept 2025

Dear all, I'm fortunate to be able to advertise a 3.5 year, funded PhD studentship at the University of Sussex, to start in September 2025. The PhD will be in the Department of Informatics, but could include a significant portion of pure category theory. The closing date for applications is 14th May. The exact project can be tailored to the successful applicant, but will likely focus on using category theory to understand the structure and behaviour of programming languages. My research tends to make use of 2-dimensional category theory and ideas from categorical logic and universal algebra. Sussex's Foundations of Software Systems group has recently been growing, and hosts researchers with interests across logic and programming languages. The university campus is just outside the seaside town of Brighton, and almost entirely surrounded by the South Downs national park. Special Volume of MSCS in honor of Marek Zawadowski

Dear Colleagues, We are honored to announce a special volume of the journal Mathematical Structures in Computer Science celebrating the work of Marek Zawadowski. Marek Zawadowski (1960-2024) was a mathematician at the University of Warsaw. He received his Ph.D. from the Université de Montréal in 1989 under the supervision of Gonzalo Reyes with the dissertation “Théorie de la descente pour les prétopos.” He made fundamental contributions to category theory, logic, and linguistics. He passed away unexpectedly in February 2024. This special volume is a celebration of Marek Zawadowski’s work and welcomes submissions on a broad range of topics, including: categorical logic, higher category theory, and linguistics.
