Unique existence is embodied in the number 1. While it reasonable to conjecture that the numbers 2 and 3 both predate 1 in the historical development of human thought, it seems even more likely that the littlest positive integer was sent out to work in the fields eons before Archimedes rushed naked into that cold street crying "Eureka", and we know pretty much just how long that was before Descartes rushed out crying "Equalizers."
