A book on Alexander Grothendieck
This is to draw the attention of readers of these lists to the book "Who is Alexander Grothendieck? Part 1: Anarchy", by Winfried Scharlau, which a translation of the German Edition, with additional information, and which is available from amazon sites, by a search on Books Grothendieck . I heard about this book only recently from Matthias Kunzer. It is a fascinating review of the times and issues, as well as it's relevance to the story of Alexander Grothendieck, and the book should be of strong interest also to non mathematicians, for its picture of turbulent times. It may also be useful to readers to give the link to a conference Peyresq, France, August 24-29, 2008 <http://www.math.jussieu.fr/%7Eleila/grothendieckcircle/peyresqbooks.html> http://www.math.jussieu.fr/~leila/grothendieckcircle/peyresqbooks.html where further articles and information are available.
