European Talbot 2026 - first announcement
Dear all, We are pleased to announce the European Talbot workshop on algebraic surgery, mentored by Thomas Nikolaus and Fabian Hebestreit. It will take place in Kolding, Denmark from June 22nd until June 26th 2025. The goal is to bring together a group of 35-40 graduate students and post-docs to stay and work together in a group house, under the guidance of the two senior mentors. Most of the talks will be given by the participants, and there will be plenty of free time for further discussions and collaborations. Topics we will cover: * Poincaré categories and their basic properties. * Grothendieck–Witt theory, L-theory, and the relation to algebraic K-theory. * Algebraic surgery, the Homotopy Limit Problem (HLP), and the computation of GW(Z). * The geometric surgery exact sequence. * Total surgery obstruction (TSO) and the structure space of a manifold. * Tate L-theory and Browder’s theorem. More information and the online application form can be found at sites.google.com/view/european-talbot/. The application deadline is Monday April 13th 2026, and we would especially like to encourage women and underrepresented minorities to apply. The participants will be selected by the beginning of May. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact the organisers at europeantalbot@gmail.com. We hope to see you this summer!
