Dear colleagues, Mrs. Mac Lane is grateful for all the cards and phone calls of condolence which she has received following the death of Saunders. However, because her telephone number was inadvertently publicized on this catnet, she has been overwhelmed with telephone calls. She has told me now twice that she would prefer written condolences. Her loss is a great loss for all of us, but Saunders has not disappeared, for his inspiration will continue to guide us, like that of his friend Sammy Eilenberg.
