Leaving the linguistic question aside, I would like to point out that I have never engaged in any shouting match with Paul Taylor and I don't intend to start now. Moreover, I have kept my private opinion of his posts strictly private and intend to continue that practice as well. Coming back to the linguistic question, I don't know for sure, but that is the sort of expression that can wind up with quite different usages on the two sides of the puddle, so I assume that is the case here.
